Minden élőlényben van belül egy fényes templom, Egy fényes lélek. Az amazóniai őserdőben elő shuar törzs ezt arutam wakani-nak hívja, ami a Szellemi erőt jelenti. Arutam shuarul Nagy Szellemet jelent, innen jön az elnevezés. Arutam szelleme benne van minden élőben, így bennünk emberekben is de a növényekben, fákban, állatokban és csillagokban is lakozik.

A Szellemi erőnk fényesítése és megőrzése elengedhetetlen életünkhöz, mivel a shuar hitvilág szerint a betegség akkor éri a testet, ha ez a szellemi erőnk elhagyja a testet.
A sámánok úgy gyógyítják betegeiket, hogy másvilági utazásra indulnak betegeik elveszett lelkéért.

The preservation of this divine essence is paramount to our existence, for according to the Shuar belief system, illness befalls the body when our spiritual force departs. In their healing practices, the shamans embark on a profound journey to the realms beyond, in search of the lost souls of their patients.
